North Launceston Junior Football Club had its beginnings in its present capacity playing under the direction of the Northern Tasmanian Junior Football Association (NTJFA) in 1975. Prior to this, junior players under 12 played at half time during senior matches. Indeed, North Launceston Senior Club was formed initially playing in the junior competition of the NTFA as “Railway” in 1886. Syd Brooks and Peter Gunton started out in 1975 with the first two teams playing in the NTJFA competition.
Over the years since then, there have been various sides fielded from Under 12s through to Under 17s.
Nowadays, we have close to 200 players with teams from Under 9s through to Under 16s. Players begin their football journey with an introduction to football through the club run Auskick program.
With a dedicated team of players backed by their parents, guardians, and friends, our teams have built on their enjoyment of football, skills and friendships. Along the way, there have been a few success stories. We have won a few premierships, backed a couple of AFL Footballers and provided keen competition for the other clubs in Launceston with a few well fought battles on grand final day.
Over the years, there have been many volunteers and helpers that have contributed to the success of our club which has enabled it to persevere and grow to where it is today. With home grounds changing over the years from Bethune Park to Rocherlea Football Ground to Invermay Park where we have been playing our “home games” since 2007. Our facilities will finally include a club room where we can hang our flags and honour boards. The young boys will be able to gaze at the honour boards and wonder about those who played before them.
